根状茎无匍匐茎或具短的匍匐茎。苞片下部的叶状，等长于或长于花序，无鞘，上部的刚毛状。小穗顶生的雌雄顺序，侧生的雌性，雌花鳞片顶端钝。果囊平凸状，脉不明显，柱头2个。
亚组模式种：蟋蟀薹草 C. eleusinoides Turcz. ex Kunth.
本亚组我国仅1种。
